Barker Associates Architecture Office (previously BFDO Architects) is an award-winning New York-based practice founded in 2006 by Alexandra Barker, FAIA, LEED AP with a focus on exploring multivalent spatial and material approaches that are nimbly adaptive to the evolving contemporary relationships between inhabitants and the built environment.  BAAO has worked in the public and private sector on a range of projects that include townhouses, residential developments, ground-up private residences, interiors, and educational and retail projects in the New York area, regionally, and internationally.

Alexandra Barker

Principal, FAIA

Alexandra Barker is an associate professor with CCE (Certificate of Continuing Education) and the assistant chair of the Masters in Architecture program in the Graduate Architecture and Urban Design Department in the School of Architecture at Pratt Institute, where she has taught since 2001. She has previously taught in the graduate architecture department at the University of Pennsylvania and in the undergraduate architecture department at Princeton University. At Pratt, she has been the recipient of national grants to integrate practice and education and sustainable principles into Pratt’s graduate architecture curriculum.
Alexandra Barker received her MARCH from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, where she received the Templeton Kelly Prize and the Clifford Wong Housing Prize for her thesis work. Her undergraduate work in Visual and Environmental Studies was completed at Harvard College, where she graduated magna cum laude.

Christina Ostermier

Senior Associate

Christina Ostermier is a registered architect and a LEED Associated Professional with experience in large institutional projects, office & commercial projects, and residential work. She teaches at Pratt as a digital instructor in graduate level design studios. She received her Master of Architecture from Pratt Institute and her BA in Architecture with Honors from the University of California at Berkeley, where she was awarded the Gadsby-Trudgett Scholarship.

Annie Paz is a designer from Chicago, Illinois with a Master of Architecture from Pratt Institute and a B.A. in Architecture from the University of Illinois in Chicago.

Yuchen Zhang

Yuchen Zhang is a designer from Toronto, Canada with a B.A. in Architecture from the University of Waterloo.

Lisa Kuhn

Project Designer

Lisa Kuhn is a designer from Buffalo, New York with a Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University at Buffalo.

Jennifer Levy

Project Manager

Jennifer Levy is a designer from Western Massachusetts with a Master of Architecture from Pratt Institute and a B.F.A. in Architecture from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Jennifer also completed minors in Art History and Building + Construction Technology and graduated Cum Laude from UMass. Jennifer has been working in architecture and construction management in NYC since 2012 and is a LEED Green Associate.
